Igor Rumyantsev

In June, 2013 we had some Russian Ural riders join us on an outback adventure ride over 2 weeks. Very sadly, on the last day of the ride we lost one of the Russian riders, Igor Rumyantsev. He was an integral part of the Ural organisation and his input in recent years has contributed to the continuing expansion of Ural around the world. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends, especially his son Ivan, who was travelling with him and us. The camaraderie we shared with Igor will ensure his memory lives on in all of us.

The photo here shows Igor in one of the many happy moments we shared on our trip.

92,000k's Clocked Up

It's now 3 and a half years since Norm purchased his Ural and he has just clocked up 92,000k's!  As you can see he has done plenty of motoring with no major issues.

Gone Bush

Squib has returned from an "Adventure" with owners, Richard and Yvonne.  They went on a long trip with plans to meet as many Ural sidecar owners and admirers as they could.

Richard is a professional photographer and loves his well prepared Ural of 20,000km so much, he loaded it up and went to share his quirky humour and love of Urals with the people he met.  His partner Yvonne so loves the ride, she was in the sidecar. They're home now after adding 28,500kms to Squib's speedo.

They posted regular updates and photos on their Facebook page "Squib and Friends".

2013 Limited Edition Gaucho Rambler

With nothing more than their horse, a knife, and a poncho, the cowboys of the Americas, or gauchos as there known elsewhere, rambled through the country, living off the land, taking each day as it came, always on a journey towards the sunset. The rebel spirit of the gaucho is very much in the heart and soul of each Ural. Taking to the road, with no specific goal in mind is something every rider longs for…

Introducing the 2013 American West-inspired limited edition Ural Gaucho Rambler, a motorcycle created in collaboration with Pendleton Woollen Mills.

This year’s limited edition Ural is a wistful homage to a past age. The colour is new, chosen by Pendleton, and we named it Pacific Blue. The bike comes with sunburned canvas upholstery and a “Journey West” blanket by Pendleton. This is a bike ready for the long road and the spiritual journey devoid of stuff. No need to pack, no need to prepare, there’s nothing to do but go!

The Gaucho Rambler has the specs of a Tourist model, but of course comes with extras, which include: a rider fairing, sidecar windscreen, a Pendleton woollen rug, an enamel picnic set
, canvas tonneau and seat covers, single saddle seat and a rear fender rack. It has its own unique paint job and there are only 3 available in Australia!

Ural and Pendleton are two companies which at different points in time ventured out to find home in the American West. Both endured, persevered and all the while managed to preserve their authenticity. This year Pendleton’s anniversary celebrates 150 years of American made textiles and Ural marks its 20th in the US. Paying homage to our beginnings and the pioneering spirit is what connects the two brands and inspired this collaboration.

“For West is where we all plan to go some day. It is where you go when the land gives out and the old-field pines encroach. It is where you go when you get the letter saying: Flee, all is discovered. It is where you go when you look down at the blade in your hand and the blood on it. It is where you go when you are told that you are a bubble on the tide of empire. It is where you go when you hear that thar’s gold in them-thar hills. It is where you go to grow up with the country. It is where you go to spend your old age. Or it is just where you go.” —Robert Penn Warren

Ural Adventure Ride September 2012

The 2012 Ural Adventure Ride has been a great event in the tradition of our previous yearly gatherings. The opportunity to ride and socialise with other Ural owners was eagerly participated by 23 Urals and that is 10% of all the new Urals in the whole of Australia. Ural owners love the exchange of information and the support for riders as many of them tackle the tough and demanding roads through the New England and North Coast regions of NSW for the first time. There is always a noticeable improvement in the riding and knowledge of the outfits as the ride progresses. Close freindships are formed amongst like minded adventurers!

This year the group rode down the spectacular Macleay river valley with its very twisty and narrow roads flanked by high and unprotected cliff edges. Fortunately the road surface was in great shape and a light breeze kept dust to a minimum. The bikes had the 85km of dirt road pretty much to themselves also. A picnic lunch by the river was enjoyed by all and there was one small slip up by a less experienced rider who clipped the rock wall whilst braking on a left hand bend.

After overnighting at a beachside resort in the bush the second day delighted riders with a rather tough section of very deep soft sand. Several riders cleared the section without assistance, but others enjoyed getting bogged to the axles and camaraderie developed as many hands pushed them clear of the sand. Riders continued ovwer the Comboyne plateau and up to a great resort hidden in the bush near Bundook, along what many thought was a road made in heaven for Ural sidecars.

The final day rode the Cooplacurripa and Nowendoc valley with another picnic lunch and then lots of laughs and coffee in Walcha. The bikes were subjected to a little dust and several riders discovered that air filters need a little maintenance when you go dirt roads in a large group. No punctures for the week and only one small breakdown which was fixed on the roadside in typical Ural "fix it in the bush" fashion before riding on to the end.

We would like to acknowledge Valerie from Uralla and Graeme Hardwick for their fantastic photos and thank them for letting us use them!
